Every public high school in America has the chance to have President Barak Obama speak at its graduation this year – provided it wins the Race to the Top Challenge. And the deadline for entries is 10:59 p.m. Minnesota-time on Monday, March 15!
What is the Race to the Top High School Commencement Challenge? The U.S. Department of Education wants high schools to show how they are improving personal responsibility, academic excellence and college readiness. President Obama will speak at the commencement of the high school that wins the challenge.
Go to www.whitehouse.gov/commencement for the details. Here you will find an application form for students to fill out. Only students can fill out the application form. However, only the principal of the high school can submit the application.
The application asks students to describe what makes your school unique and how your school encourages personal responsibility and engages students. Then it asks for specific steps taken by your school to promote academic excellence and prepare all students to graduate ready for a college or a career.
Once you have entered in this information, you have the option to include a supplemental essay or video. Now, this would take a bit more time and effort. However, here’s your chance to show the White House and America the character of your high school!
The challenge is meant to inspire, encourage, and motivate American teens and adults. Show America what your high school is all about!
