Laura Linder-Scholer comes to the position of Volunteer Coordinator with an educational background in English Language and Literature, three years of journalism experience and a commitment to the values and projects of ThreeSixty Journalism. A native of St. Paul, she is excited to re-engage with the Twin Cities community in order to support youth education, continue community outreach and foster the sustainability of the literacy and communication projects at ThreeSixty Journalism.
Laura’s first experience with journalism entailed working for the Mounds View High School student newspaper, first as a staff writer and later as Spread Editor. This formative experience taught her to ask questions, acknowledge the value of continual learning and communicate with intention and integrity. She pursued these qualities—building upon a lifelong love of reading and writing—and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in English from St. Olaf College in 2011. In college, Laura volunteered as a reading tutor in a second-grade classroom, as well as an editor and teacher’s assistant in the college’s English Department. She also served as a state-certified Social Advocate for survivors of sexual and domestic abuse, learning to provide resources and give a voice back to individuals facing immense adversity.
At ThreeSixty Journalism, Laura hopes to be an advocate for the students, the organization, and the larger needs of the community. She believes in the profound potential of education, poetically expressed by the activist, writer, and artist Jane Evershed: “To read is to empower, to empower is to write, to write is to influence, to influence is to change, to change is to live”.
