David graduated from Eden Prairie High School in 2011 and will be attending the University of St. Thomas. He plans on studying journalism. David joined our staff through our summer Introduction to Journalism camp in 2010, was a member of the 2010-2011 Editorial Board and participated in our Intermediate Journalism camp in the summer of 2011.
David’s story
How did I get involved in this wonderful community? That has a rather winding and interesting tale behind it, but the short and easy answer is that this past summer I signed up for and joined the July camp which began on July seventh and went all through the month. It was a wondrous and eye opening experience for me that I would not trade for anything else from that summer.
One of the things that I find to be cool about journalism is that the goal is not to sugar coat information or dance around the issues, but the main job is to bring to light things that otherwise wouldn’t be known and to express the views of those who would not be able to get them out otherwise. I love the cause that we stand for and the stories that are woven with words that share experiences that are life-changing to others.
Since starting to work with journalism, I have had the privilege of meeting some very talented people, Annie and Miles and Lynda. They have taught me some important things and things I won’t forget, no matter where this life takes me. I think that programs like these have the amazing capabilities of showing people that you can be ordinary to be extraordinary, you don’t need to be affluent or an icon in society, by simply telling someone’s story, you can move mountains and do just as much as anyone else in this world.
